The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting equal access to tertiary education by providing free application documents to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) seeking admission into Nigerian higher institutions.
The initiative, which is part of the Boardโs inclusive education policy, will be implemented through the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) for eligible candidates intending to sit for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Registrar of JAMB, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, disclosed this during a meeting with critical stakeholders at the Boardโs National Headquarters in Abuja.
He reiterated JAMBโs unwavering dedication to supporting candidates with disabilities and ensuring that no eligible candidate is denied access to higher education on account of physical or learning challenges.
According to the Registrar, beneficiaries of the free application documents include, but are not limited to, candidates living with Down Syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia, and Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
โTo support persons living with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all eligible candidates in this category. However, such candidates must possess a minimum of five credit passes at the OโLevel, obtained in not more than two sittings,โ Prof. Oloyede stated.
He further disclosed that the Board would provide audiobooks for blind candidates to enhance accessibility and ease of learning.
The audiobooks, he explained, are digital adaptations of conventional printed materials and will be made available in widely compatible audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA.
Professor Oloyede emphasised that the initiative aligns with JAMBโs broader mandate of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness in Nigeriaโs admission process, assuring stakeholders of the Boardโs continued commitment to the welfare and success of candidates with special needs.
