JAMB Releases 2026 UTME Results for Underage Candidates: What You Need to Know

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the 2026 UTME results of underage candidates for viewing, months after the Board withheld the results while implementing its exceptional-candidate admission process.

However, JAMB has stressed that the release of a candidate’s result does not automatically make an underage candidate eligible for admission.

Only candidates who meet JAMB’s requirements for exceptionally performing underage candidates can proceed through the special admission process. You can read our full guide to JAMB’s 2026 underage admission rules and requirements.

Here is what affected candidates and parents need to know.

Who Does JAMB Consider an Underage Candidate in 2026?

For the 2026 admission exercise, JAMB generally requires candidates to be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026.

This means a candidate who will still be below 16 on that date falls into the underage category.

JAMB’s official 2026 UTME guidelines nevertheless provide an exceptional route for younger candidates who demonstrate sufficiently high academic performance across several stages of assessment.

The Board’s website also currently states that the minimum admission age for tertiary institutions remains 16 years.

Why Were Underage Candidates’ Results Previously Withheld?

Earlier in the 2026 UTME cycle, some candidates and parents became concerned after receiving a โ€œNo Result Yetโ€ message when attempting to check their scores.

JAMB explained in April that this was not necessarily a technical problem. Results belonging to underage candidates had deliberately not been released while the Board applied its special procedure for candidates below the normal admission age.

At the time, JAMB said only underage candidates who scored 320 or above in the UTME would be shortlisted to proceed to subsequent stages of the exceptional-candidate assessment.

JAMB later began notifying qualifying candidates and forwarding their details to their institutions of choice for further screening.

Underage Candidates Can Now View Their 2026 UTME Results

JAMB has now released the results so that affected candidates and their parents or guardians can see how they performed in the examination.

This is an important change from the earlier position when the results remained unavailable.

But there is an equally important warning:

Being able to see an underage candidate’s UTME result does not mean that the result can automatically be used to secure admission.

JAMB says candidates who do not satisfy the exceptional-candidate requirements should not present the result to institutions or individuals in an attempt to obtain admission.

How to Check the 2026 UTME Result

According to JAMB’s latest announcement, affected candidates can check their results by sending:

RESULT

to either:

55019 or 66019

using the same phone number used during UTME registration.

Candidates should avoid sending sensitive registration or login information to people claiming they can help obtain or alter a result.

JAMB’s official e-Facility also provides candidates with access to examination and admission-related services.

What Are the Requirements for an Exceptional Underage Candidate?

Getting a high UTME score is only one part of the process.

JAMB’s 2026 rules require exceptionally performing underage candidates to demonstrate very high performance across the prescribed stages of assessment.

The UTME benchmark is at least 320 out of 400, equivalent to 80%.

The process also requires strong performance in the relevant Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, institutional screening or Post-UTME and JAMB’s exceptional-candidate assessment.

JAMB’s published 2026 guidelines describe the standard as at least 80% at each of the relevant stages.

Therefore:

Scoring 320 or above does not itself guarantee admission.

It allows an underage candidate to remain under consideration, subject to satisfying the other requirements.

Why Is JAMB Waiting for NECO Results?

JAMB says the final assessment of exceptionally performing underage candidates has not yet been concluded because some candidates are awaiting their 2026 NECO results.

Those candidates need an opportunity to present their results for verification before the exceptional-candidate process can be completed.

According to JAMB’s latest statement, the Board will announce a date for the final stage of assessment after the NECO results are released.

This means candidates who have progressed through the process should continue monitoring official JAMB announcements rather than assuming that the release of their UTME result completes the admission process.

Does a Score Above 320 Guarantee Admission?

No.

This is probably the most important point for candidates and parents.

A score of 320 or higher satisfies the UTME performance threshold for exceptional consideration, but JAMB’s process involves additional academic and institutional assessments.

A candidate must successfully satisfy the other requirements before being considered for admission as an exceptional underage candidate.

The normal minimum admission age remains 16 years, with the underage route intended as an exception for candidates who meet JAMB’s stringent criteria.

What If You Scored Below 320?

An underage candidate may now be able to view the UTME result, even if the score does not meet the threshold for exceptional consideration.

But JAMB says the release of that result is primarily to allow the candidate and parents or guardians to know the candidate’s performance.

If the candidate does not satisfy the requirements for exceptional consideration, the result does not provide an alternative route around the minimum admission-age policy.

Candidates and parents should therefore be cautious about anyone claiming they can use such a result to obtain admission outside JAMB’s established process.

What Should Underage Candidates Do Now?

If you were waiting to see your 2026 UTME result, you can now check your score using JAMB’s announced SMS method.

After checking:

  • If you meet the exceptional-candidate threshold and are already progressing through JAMB’s assessment process, continue following instructions from JAMB and your chosen institution.
  • Make sure any required O’Level results are properly uploaded to JAMB’s system. JAMB’s general guidance requires candidates awaiting results to upload them once they become available.
  • If you are awaiting NECO results, watch for the next announcement concerning the final assessment.
  • Do not pay anyone who claims they can bypass JAMB’s age or exceptional-candidate requirements.

Result Released Does Not Mean Admission Granted

The release of the results resolves one issue for underage candidates: they can finally see how they performed in the 2026 UTME.

It does not remove JAMB’s minimum admission-age policy.

Candidates below 16 remain subject to the exceptional-candidate process, and only those who satisfy the required academic and assessment standards can ultimately be considered for admission.

For candidates still going through that process, the next important development will be the release of the 2026 NECO results and JAMB’s announcement of the final assessment date.
