electrovalent

An electrovalent or ionic bond is formed when a metal atom transfers one or more electrons to a non-metal atom. Ionic or electrovalent compounds are those compounds which are formed by the transfer of electrons from a metal to a non-metal.

Some examples of electrovalent compounds are sodium chloride (table salt), NaCl; lithium carbonate, Li2CO3, MgCl2, CaCl2, MgO, Na2S, etc.
