The candidate is required to write a letter to his/her friend in another country narrating his/her experiences during the last nationwide strike by labour unions on the removal of fuel subsidy.
For a mark of 6 or above, the candidate must give at least three experiences he/she had during the labour strike.

The candidate is required to write an article suitable for publication in a daily newspaper on the topic: The Effects of Bombing in Nigeria. For a mark of 6 or above, the candidate has to show an understanding of Bombing and then discuss fully at least at least points bordering on the effects of bombing in Nigeria.
Organization – 10marks
Orderly presentation of material is required here. Paragraphs should be well-developed and properly linked. An appropriate title should be provided. Also the writer’s full name should be given immediately after title or at the end of the article. If a letter and not end article is written, the aspect is marked out of 5.

Narrate the story of any animal festival in your community.
Content – 10marks
The candidate is required to narrate a story of any annual festival in his/her community. He/she is free to come up with any story, real or imaginary, but must be plausible. Both the narrative and descriptive approach will be accepted.
Organization – 10marks
The story should be narrated in such a way that it will have a plot-structure with a beginning, climax and an ending. If the story does not have a plot pattern it will be marked out of 5. Both the narrative and descriptive approach will be accepted.
Expression – 20marks
As this is a narration, the use of past tense form with consistency is demanded. Credit is given to appropriate use of a moisture of long and short sentences. If the narration does not Centre on festival this part will be mark out of 8.

Content – 10marks
As the Chief Speaker, the candidate is required to speak for or against the proposition: Students in the Urban Areas Perform Better in SSCE than their counterparts in the Rural Areas. For a mark of 6 or above, at least three adequately developed arguments suffice. It is expected the right from the beginning the candidate will take a definite stand and clearly state it. Zero will be awarded if a candidate fails to take a definite stand.
Organization – 10marks
As this is a debate, the candidate is expected to begin with the vocative, Good……..the chairman, the panel of judges, the timekeeper, co-debaters etc. the candidate should then state clearly the stand he/she is taking either for or against the proposition. This should be followed by statement and development of points to support his/her stand. Credit is given for candidate’s ability to successfully employ contrary points to buttress his/her own argument.
Zero is awarded if a candidate merely shuttles between the two opinion stands without taking a definite one. The conclusion should be or contain a re-affirmation of the candidate’s stand.
Expression – 20marks
The candidate should through the use of appropriate expressions demonstrate his/her awareness of the presence of an immediate audience. He/she should use simple clear but correct expressions to communicate with and carry along the audience who are likely to be of varied background. Credit is given for moderate and appropriate use of rhetorical question and other device to arouse and sustain the audience’s attention and at the same time, convince them.
