Companionship:

Positive groups encourage members to come together and share in a friendly relationship. They usually end up having love and affection towards each other. They learn how to tolerate, how to resolve conflicts and issues amicably.

Group behaviour promotes interaction, unity and a sense of belonging among people.

Survival and Security:

Positive groups can organize training programmes for their members to help them develop and acquire new skills. They also come to the aid of members who are attacked by individuals, groups or the government, and provide some general welfare services.

The major aim of most positive groups is to defend the rights of members.

Achievement:

Set goals of the group are achieved in no time because there is unity among its members.

People achieve more when they act collectively.

Social Stability:

They promote social stability and bring about positive changes in society. They help the government to know people’s feelings towards its policies and activities. Group behaviour enhances the freedom of the oppressed in society.

Power and Control:

Some groups are so powerful that they can hold the government to ransom, either by crippling the economy, or paralysing service delivery in strategic areas if their demands are not met.
