This is the book for recording goods bought on credit from the suppliers. It is the book of original entry. In the purchase day book, cash transactions must not be recorded.

Note: Total of purchase day book will be transferred to the Debit side of purchase account in the general ledger and personal account will be debited.

Nature of the Account:

The Purchase day book shows the column for Dates, Particulars, Folio, details, and Total amount.

Procedures:
(i) Daily credit purchases are entered in the book.
(ii) Credit Personal account of Suppliers.
(iii) Debit Purchase account with total.
