Topic Content:
- Substitution Method
Substitution method is one of the methods of solving simultaneous equation.
To use substitution method:
1. Rearrange one of the equations, make one variable the subject.
2. Substitute this into the second equation.
3. Solve the resulting equation to obtain one variable.
4. Find the other variable by substituting your answer into the original equation
5. Check the solutions by substituting the two answers back into the original equations.
Example 1.2.1:
\( \scriptsize y = 5x \: + \: 2 \) …………..(1)
\( \scriptsize x \: + \: 2y = 15 \) …………..(2)
Solution
From equation (1) \( \scriptsize y = 5x \: + \: 2 \)
Substitute into equation (2)
