A composite shape contains two shapes. To get the volume of the component shape, add the volume of the individual shapes that make up the composite. 

Example 6.3.1:

Rice is sold in cups. A good cupful of rice has a cone-shaped mound of rice on top. Use the value π = 3 to find the approximate volume of rice in the cup.
