- Features of Poetry
There are numerous features of poetry used by various poets in many different ways. In all these, there are five features that are essential to any poem.
1. Imagery:
The only thing that will make poetry powerful and interesting is the use of imagery i.e. the selective and effective use of words to create pictures in the mind of readers. With the use of imagery, poetry appeals to the five senses. (sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing).
2. Rhythm:
This is the use of words with similar sounds together in poetry such as assonance (repetition of vowel sounds in nearby words), and consonance (repetition of consonant sounds at the end or middle of words). This allows a flow of thought in poetry. A rhythm that continuously repeats a single basic pattern is called a metre . Rhyme refers to
