Sodium trioxocarbonate (IV) is prepared in the laboratory by heating sodium hydrogen trioxocarbonate (IV).
2NaHCO3(aq)\(\overset{heat}{\normalsize \rightarrow}\) Na2CO3(g) + H2O(l) + CO2(g)
On crystallization with ten molecules of water, washing soda is formed;
Na2CO3 + 10H2O → Na2CO3.10H2O
Laboratory Preparation of Na2CO3 by Passing CO2 through a Solution of NaOH (Soda ash):
Na2CO3 is prepared by passing CO2 through a solution of NaOH.
