WAEC Places Ban on Thirty-Five Schools for Exam Malpractice

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has placed a ban on thirty-five schools in Rivers State. This ban will make these schools henceforth ineligible to take part in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The ban is as a result of the persistent cases of exam fraud in these schools.

In a letter to the Rivers State Ministry of Education, the Deputy Registrar/Zonal Co-ordinator for Head of National Office, WAEC, Mr. S.D Kum, said the affected schools would not be able to register their students as candidates for the WASSCE until further notice. The State Ministry of Education has since forwarded copies of the letter to the affected schools which included both public and private schools.

In a related development, the Rivers State Government has demoted the principals of the fourteen blacklisted public schools, while the certificates of the private ones may be withdrawn.
