Classification of Computers: By Generation, Size, Type & Purpose:

Computers can be classified according to the following conditions:

1. Based on the Period they were Manufactured:

This follows major technological development (generations of the computer). On this basis, computers can be classified into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations of computers.

2. Based on Data Representation:

The computer is further classified into three types based on its ability to handle data or how it processes incoming data differently (i.e. the type of work they do), These are: Analogue, Digital, and Hybrid.

i. Analogue Computer: An Analog computer is used to process analogue data. Analog data is data that is constantly changing or varying, such as electrical current, voltage, etc.
