- Parallelogram (Meaning, Properties)
- Square (Meaning, Properties)
- Rectangle (Meaning, Properties)
- Rhombus (Meaning, Properties)
- Trapezium (Meaning, Properties)
Parallelogram:
This is a quadrilateral with a pair of opposite sides parallel and equal.
Properties of a Parallelogram:
- Both pairs of opposite sides are equal and parallel.
- Both pairs of opposite sides are congruent.
- Both pairs of opposite angles are congruent (equal).
- Consecutive angles are supplementary.
Square:
This is a quadrilateral that has all sides and angles equal. The angle is always at right angles.
Properties of a Square:
- Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
- All sides are equal.
- All pairs of adjacent sides are perpendicular.
- All angles are right angles i.e 90°.
- Diagonals are equal in length and bisectBisect means dividing into two equal parts. It means to divide a geometric figure such as a line, an angle or any other shape into two congruent parts (or two parts... More each other at 90°.
Rectangle:
A quadrilateral has its opposite sides equal and all its angles are right angles.
Properties of a Rectangle:
- Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
- Both pairs of opposite sides are congruent.
- All pairs of adjacent sides are perpendicular.
- All angles are right angles.
Rhombus:
This is a quadrilateral that has all its sides equal. Its opposite angles are equal but not at right angles.
Properties of a Rhombus:
- Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel.
- All sides are congruent and equal but no angle is a right angle.
- Both pairs of opposite angles are equal.
- Consecutive angles are supplementary.
- Diagonals are not equal in length but bisect each other at 90°.
Trapezium:
A trapezium is a quadrilateral that has two opposite sides parallel.
Properties of a Trapezium:
- Exactly one pair of opposite sides is parallel.
- Exactly two pairs of consecutive angles are supplementary.
