To multiply or divide in standard form arrange the number parts together and arrange the powers of 10 together then apply the laws of indices. 

Example 10.4.1: 

Multiply 6.5 × 103 by 3.5 × 108 giving your answer in standard form. 

Solution 

(6.5 × 103 ) × (3.5 × 108
