Eye defects are conditions that can affect the function of the eye.
The common eye defects are:
- Short-sightedness or Myopia
- Long-sightedness or Hypermetropia
- Astigmatism
Other eye defects include night blindness, conjunctivitis, cataracts, colour blindness, etc. These defects may be due to old age, bacterial infections, vitamin A deficiency, or poor hygiene habits.
1. Short-sightedness (Myopia):
Myopia is the medical name for short-sightedness, which means that people suffering from this defect can see objects that are near clearly but have difficulty seeing objects that are farther away. For example, if you’re short-sighted, you may not be able to make out highway signs until they’re just a few feet away.
This is because the eyeball becomes larger than normal. As a result, light from distant objects is brought to focus in front of the retina.
