Hydrogen chloride (HCl) is a compound made up of hydrogen and chlorine elements and exists as gas at room temperature and pressure. A solution of the gas in water is called hydrochloric acid.

Laboratory Preparation:

1. Hydrogen chloride is commonly prepared in the laboratory by the reaction of a chloride, generally that of sodium, NaCl, with tetraoxosulphate(VI) acid, H2SO4
