- Examples of Metals and their Uses
Ferrous Metals:
Cast iron: It is used for producing piston rings, machine parts, stoves, and engine blocks.

High carbon steel: It is used for manufacturing cutting tools, pliers, drill bits, punches, and hammerheads.

Mild steel: Used for manufacturing structural work materials, bolts and nuts, and other non-cutting tools.

Stainless steel: For processing chemicals and foods. Stainless steel is used to manufacture kitchen accessories, cookware, and cutlery.

Non-Ferrous Metals:
Aluminium: For manufacturing cooking pots, aircraft parts, electrical cables, and aluminium foil.

Copper: Copper is used in the production of electrical conductors, switches, transformers, and telecommunications.

Zinc: Zinc is used for the coating of iron and steel as protection against rusting. The metal is often seen as the “whitish” metal coating on old-fashioned washtubs and buckets.

Gold: Gold has been used to make ornamental objects and jewellery for thousands of years.

Lead: Lead is used for making lead pipes, water pipes, water tanks, in the manufacture of storage batteries, and ammunition.

Tin: Tin is widely used for plating steel cans used as food containers, in metals used for bearings, and in solder.

Nichrome: This is an alloy used for manufacturing electrical-resistant materials.
