Definition of Materials:
Materials are substances from which something is made or can be made. Materials can be classified on the basis of their physical and chemical properties.
The common materials used in the engineering industry are;
1. Wood.
2. Metals.
3. Ceramics.
4. Glass.
5. Rubber.

These materials may be used in their natural state or may be combined with other materials, in order to get new materials with certain desired qualities.
We will be discussing the properties of these materials in the upcoming topics.
