Various uses of the Definite Article:
When the definite article ‘the’ is attached to a noun, the article may tell us many things about the noun.
(1) To refer to something already mentioned:
Examples:
i. There is a book on the table. The book belongs to Dele.
ii. I saw a goat in our yard but I do not know who owns the goat.
