Benefits of Agricultural Marketing:
1. Creates Employment Opportunities:
Agricultural marketing, especially the distribution channels, encompasses various activities like processing, transportation, packaging, storage, loading and unloading, creating the opportunity to earn an income for people who carry out those particular services.
2. Source of Foreign Exchange:
Nigeria engages in the marketing of agricultural products like cocoa, soya beans and cashew nuts to other countries, through which the country earns foreign exchange. After crude oil, agricultural products account for Nigeria’s highest foreign exchange source.
3. Saves Time:
The number of intermediaries in the market like wholesalers, brokers, commission agents, retailers and so on, makes it easier for the farmer or producer to focus more on farming activities. The intermediary relationship saves farmers time because they don’t have to look for buyers.
