  • Types of Bills

A bill is a proposed law that needs to be discussed before it can become law. It is a draft of a proposed law that is presented before the legislature for deliberation and discussion.

Types of Bills:

Public bill: This pertains to issues that affect the general public or classes of citizens, including financial provisions.

The government submits this bill to Parliament to be approved, and possibly amended, before becoming law.

Private Members’ Bills: This is submitted to Parliament by a lawmaker or parliamentarian who is not a Minister to be approved, and possibly amended, before becoming law.

Money Bills: This is introduced by the executive arm of government and solely concerns taxation or government spending as opposed to changes in public law.
