Roughages refer to coarse materials such as cellulose from vegetables, which should be present in the diet to aid the passage of food materials through the alimentary canal.

Roughage

Examples of Roughages include fruits, cellulose, and green vegetables, and they are indigestible parts of plants (that your body can’t digest) that are consumed as food. 

it’s an important food source for the beneficial bacteria in your gut. It may also aid weight management and decrease certain risk factors for heart disease.

They are sometimes called bulk or dietary fibre and are found in fruits, vegetables, and grains.
