In our previous lesson, we noted that adjuncts are the same as adverbs. We explained that both single-word adverbs and adverbial phrases perform the same functions, namely, to modify a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. We also examined some prepositional phrases that function as adverbials.
In this lesson, we will consider other functions of adverbials
Types of Adverbials:
i. Adverbial of Manner:
An adverbial of manner modifies a verb and indicates how the action of the verb was performed.
Examples:
a) The man spoke fearlessly. The man spoke like a warrior.
b) The visitors appeared suddenly. The visitors appeared without notice.
