     Emphatic stress has to do with the liberty a speaker takes to stress any of the words he utters, including those words that should normally not be stressed.  In emphatic stress, chosen words are stressed so as to emphasize them or to portray the speaker’s emotional attitude to a suggestion, a question, or an inquiry.

     To illustrate, suppose a man has been telling his friend how his sister’s new green dress makes her appear especially beautiful.
