School accidents are unforeseen events occurring within the school compound/environment, especially in areas like the laboratory, playground, classroom, gymnasium, school farm, refectory etc.
Causes of School Accidents:
1. Negligence.
2. Improper use of equipment.
3. Dilapidated building.
4. Damaged and faulty equipment and facilities.
5. Slippery playground.
6. Poor ventilation.
7. Carelessness.
8. Lack of concentration.
9. Ignorance.
10. Lack of skill.
Prevention of School Accidents:
1. Proper arrangement of laboratories.
2. Orderly arrangements of school furniture; and proper sitting arrangements.
3. Promotion of a safe playground/environment.
4. Adequate facility and equipment.
5. Equipment should be properly used.
6. The environment and playground should be clean, safe and free from hazards.
7. Prompt placement of facilities, equipment and machines.
8. Good mastery of skills.
9. Good supervision and monitoring of the pupils and students.
