What is First Aid?

First aid is the initial assistance given to an injured person prior to the arrival of medical personnel.

It is the immediate care or treatment given to an injured victim before the arrival of a doctor with the aim of reducing the risk of severe injury or death during emergency situations.

First aid could be performed by a first aider, who is trained to give immediate help in an emergency situation or lay persons (untrained persons).

Training and certifications are offered by the Nigerian Red Cross for anyone who wants to learn the first aid skills needed in emergency situations.

Purpose of First Aid:

1.  To preserve life.
2. To promote recovery.
3. To prevent further injury.
