  • Paul’s Third Missionary Journey (Acts 18: 23-28; Acts 19: 1-41)
  • Summary

Paul in Ephesus (Acts 18: 23-28; 19: 1-41):

After Paul had stayed in Anitoch for some time he left and travelled throughout the regions of Galatia and Phrygia strengthening the disciples. A man named Apollos came to Ephesus. Apollos was a Jewish man, he was a well-educated man with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. He taught people about Jesus passionately although he only knew of the baptism of John.

One day when Apollos was speaking boldly in the synagogues, Priscilla and Aquila heard him and invited him to their home where they spoke to him and taught him the way of God even more. Eventually, Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, and the brothers and sisters encouraged him to do so and sent him along with a letter asking the disciples in Achaia to welcome him. Apollos was a great help in Achaia, he regularly and boldly opposed his Jewish opponents in debates. He used the Scriptures to prove Jesus was the Messiah.

While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul went to Ephesus. Paul’s second visit to Ephesus marked the beginning of his third missionary journey and it was to fulfil the promise he made to them during his second missionary journey.
