Acts 16: 9
From Troas, Paul and his companions travelled to Philippi and stayed there for a few days. Philippi was a Roman colony and the leading city of that district in Macedonia. The city of Philippi was founded by Philip of Macedonia, the father of Alexander the Great. Philippi was a typical Roman town with an amphitheatre and temples dedicated to their Greek gods. People in Philippi practised magic and fortune-telling.
