Paul Gets Called by the Holy Spirit for His First Missionary Journey:
In Antioch (the big city in Syria), the Holy Spirit singled out Paul and Barnabas from the believers worshipping there and sent them on their first missionary journey.
After Paul’s conversion to Christianity, he began to preach in the synagogues in Damascus that Jesus Christ is the son of God. This was difficult for Jews in Damascus to believe, Acts 9 verse 21 says, “Then all who heard were amazed, and said, “Is this not he who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem, and has come here for that purpose so that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?” (NKJV).
Their words only strengthened Saul and he carried on preaching in Damascus until he received word that there was a plot by the Jews in Damascus to kill him. The disciples in Damascus helped Paul escape at night – they let him down over a wall in a basket.
