Who is a Computer Professional?
A computer professional is a trained person, who acquired a certificate in computer training. Computer professionals are those who have undergone one form of formal computer training, or the other, on the usage of the computer. These categories of people are involved in the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems.
A group of computer professionals works together, to produce both the computer hardware and software. Another group of people, of diverse professions, makes use of the computer to achieve one thing or the other, in their various fields. All these people are referred to as people-ware.
They include computer programmers, computer operators, computer engineers, graphic artists, book publishers, and medical doctors. Without the people-ware, the computer cannot function. This can be compared to the driver of a car, without whom the car cannot move.
A good computer professional must be certified by an institution, or regulatory body, such as Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, University/College, etc.
Qualities of Good Computer Professionals:
- A good computer professional must have a good knowledge of the system components.
- A good computer professional should have basic relevant qualifications, in the field of computers in which he is involved.
- A good computer professional should have excellent analytical skills, that will enable him to solve problems.
- A good computer professional should pay close attention to details, to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the computer room.
- He or she must have strong mathematical skills, because mathematics is used in many computer applications, such as when dealing with circuits or programming.
- He or she must know how to use programming languages, and how to use a variety of software programs.
- He or she must have sharp troubleshooting skills, to enable him to solve the problems of network, software, and other programs quickly.
- Computer professionals must be versatile. They should have marketing skills and entrepreneurial skills.
- A good computer professional must be able to communicate effectively, with other professionals within the system. By this, we mean that a good computer professional should be able to use the right computer terminology, at the right time.
- A successful computer professional should be versatile and possess skills beyond information technology, for example, marketing, business, and finance.
