Puberty is the transition period between childhood and adulthood, during which a child reaches sexual maturity and becomes capable of reproduction.

Puberty does not have a definite time for all individuals. It starts between ages 8 and 13 in girls and ages 9 and 15 in boys.

Puberty is marked by certain developmental changes experienced by both boys and girls.

Puberty in Girls:

1. Development of breasts otherwise known as mammary gland.

2. Widening of the pelvis/hip.

3. Commencement of menstruation.

4. Pubic hairs on and around the genitals and hairs in the armpits.

5. Vaginal secretions/fluid.

Puberty in Boys:

1. Deepening of voice as a result of the enlargement of the larynx.

2. Growth of hairs on the chest.

3. Increased body strength due to the enlargement of the muscles.

4. Facial hairs develop.

5. Broadening of the shoulders.

6. Penis grows longer and bigger.

7. Wet dreams.
