  • Collision Theory

The collision theory states that for a chemical reaction to occur, the reacting particles must collide with one another. Hence the rate of reaction is directly proportional to the frequency of collision between the particles.

It is not all collisions between particles that will form a product. For a collision to be effective, the particles must be properly oriented [aligned] and also possess minimum energy called ACTIVATION ENERGY. Only a small fraction of the total number of collisions is effective.
