What is Expansion?

Expansion is the increase in the size of an object when the object is heated.

Linear thermal

When different lengths of different metals are subjected to heat at the same time, their expansions differ from each other e.g. when copper and brass of the same length are subjected to the same amount of heat at the same time interval, copper expands faster than brass due to the difference in their coefficient of linear expansion or linear expansivity.
