- Quantum Numbers
Quantum numbers are mathematical solutions to the problems of the arrangement of electrons around the nucleus in an atom. The electrons in an atom can be identified by four quantum numbers. They are as follows:
1. Principal quantum number [n]
2. Subsidiary or azimuthal number [l]
3. Magnetic quantum number [m]
4. Spin quantum number [s]
1. Principal Quantum Number [n]:
The principal quantum number [n] has integral values of 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Each energyEnergy is the ability to do work. Energy exists in several forms such as heat, kinetic or mechanical energy, light, potential energy, and electrical energy. Units of Energy: The SI unit... More level can take 2n2 electrons. They are also denoted by the letters K, L, M, N etc.
Energy level | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
Shell symbol | K | L | M | N |
Each of the energy levels also contains sub-levels.
