Meaning:
A skeleton is a rigid framework which gives support and shape to an organism.
Supporting systems in plants are usually called “SUPPORTING TISSUES”.
Biological significance:
i. A supporting system is necessary to carry out the body’s weight. The skeletal system gives shape to the body.
ii. The skeleton protects the brain, and its bony box contains the eyes, the ears and the nose.
