  • All cells come from pre-existing cells through cellular division

 

b. Mention the various forms in which cells exist.

Forms in which cells exist:

  • As a single unicellular independent organism
  • As a colony but each cell lives as an individual
  • As a filament but each cell is independent of the other
  • As part of a multicellular organism where there is interdependence.

 

c. Outline the contributions of the following scientists to cell theory; Robert Hooke, Rudolf Virchow, Mattais Schleiden.

Contributions of the following Scientists to the cell theory.

  1. Robert Hooke: He coined the term cell when viewing Cork tissue through a lens.
  2. Rudolf Virchow: He found out that all cells come from pre-existing cells.
  3. Matthias Schleiden: He revealed that bodies of plants are made up of cells and defined a cell as the basic unit of plant structure.
